About
Althea is the founder and chief executive officer of Discala Holdings.
She is the former chief executive officer and executive director of a significant investment holding group and has been a non-executive director of various companies operating in the agriculture, investment, and financial services sectors.
During her twenty years’ tenure in the corporate, commercial, financial, and investment sectors, she has served on various board sub-committees, including as chairperson of audit and risk, and social and ethics committees. As a seasoned chartered accountant (SA), Althea has extensive senior corporate experience in listed banking and financial services institutions.
Among other industry related qualifications, she is a qualified chartered accountant with a BCom degree and an honours degree in accounting and finance. In addition, she holds an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science and her thesis on impact investing in financial institutions attest to her vast knowledge of, and insight into the financial services industry.
Testimony to this is the fact that she currently serves as an independent board director and chairperson of the audit and risk committee of a leading engineering design company, and her professional affiliations include being a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) as well as the Institute of Directors (IODSA). Having effectively concluded the acquisitions and disposals of several businesses in her career, Althea also has in-depth experience in portfolio, investment management and the raising of capital. She has a demonstrable track record of successfully expanding businesses, whilst ensuring long-term sustainability.
She also recently co-authored the book “This Generation Leads”, as the subject matter expert on the union of management and leadership in the role of the CEO.
Ultimately, Althea is passionate about ensuring both financial and social impact returns in the businesses she operates in.
